-For those of you not aware of the situation, the information below concerning Puerto Rico is true !!! I recently moved here and the gun laws here make Wash DC's look quite liberal. Here in PR you need a PERMIT from the Commonwealth of PR to even have a firearm, any kind of firearm, in your home for ANY reason. If you think we have it bad in the states now, just picture a political system in one of our states that is the absolute worst you can imagine of the liberal Democrats coupled with the political corruption of Clinton and the Government of Mexico (where they don't allow you to own a gun, or much else, either) all combined. Get the picture??? The US Gov't already pours a lot of $$$$$$ into this place and many people here still live like they would in a 3rd world country. This is a beautiful place and there are many wonderful people here in PR but this place is not ready for statehood by any stretch of the imagination. Someday... Maybe... But not now.

THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT !!! CONTACT YOUR LEADERS AND TELL THEM TO JUST SAY "NO" to Puerto Rico becoming a state at this time. If we make PR a state can Mexico be far behind??? ACT ON THIS ONE, PLEASE !!! --- PEACE.

"Seven Clones of Schumer" Bill Nearing Vote
--And in the Senate, one more Senator could soon jump off Hatch's Horror Bill!

Sarah Brady and Chuck Schumer to gain with Puerto Rico Statehood

The Washington Times reported today that unrest is brewing in the Republican Party over Newt Gingrich's pushing of H.R. 856, the Puerto Rico Statehood Act. Nevertheless, there are a surprising number of pro-gun Republicans that either plan to vote for it or are still undecided on how they will vote.

The Times article pointed to several problems with the bill, in addition to GOA's gun rights concerns. Taken together, concerned citizens can present at least five reasons to their Rep. for opposing H.R. 856:

1. Firearms are registered and many are banned in Puerto Rico. Assuredly, statehood for Puerto Rico means at least six (or seven) more anti-gun Congressmen from the island -- which makes Puerto Rico statehood six (or seven) times worse than D.C. statehood.

2. At least 50% of the island's population is on food stamps. Under statehood that number would increase, as would the cost to the U.S. taxpayer ($3-4 billion annually in food stamps alone). Moreover, Puerto Rico will pay little "into the system" thanks to low incomes and tax credits.

3. The island's independence movement will still exist, especially among the more extreme elements. Notice how terrorist acts always seem to cause the rest of us to lose more of our rights and freedoms.

4. Nine out of ten high school graduates in Puerto Rico cannot speak English. In regard to this point, pro-gun Rep. Gerald Solomon said that Puerto Rico statehood "could create a Quebec-style problem in the United States."

5. Bill Clinton, the most anti-gun President in U.S. history, has endorsed H.R. 856 and demanded that Congress pass it. This reason alone should suggest that gun owners oppose the bill!

ACTION: Urge your Representative to oppose H.R. 856 (Call the Capitol at 800-522-6721 or 202-225-3121; the GOA website contains e-mail, fax numbers, and office numbers). If your Rep. is a Republican, then you especially need to contact him or her since their leadership is trying to "put the squeeze" on them. The vote was originally scheduled for March 4, but there is talk of bringing up the bill earlier -- perhaps to preclude the increasing opposition from the grassroots.

One more Senator sends warning shot to Hatch on S. 10 Horror Bill

On Tuesday (2/24/98), Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) sent a warning shot to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT). Enzi fired off a letter to Hatch, charging that several of the provisions in the bill "would unduly restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners and dealers."

After detailing these provisions -- many of which have been covered extensively in previous GOA fax/email alerts -- Sen. Enzi bluntly stated that,

I believe that the current version of S. 10 would unduly punish law-abiding citizens in its attempt to crack down on hardened criminals. As such, unless changes are made to S.10 to ensure that it will not be another vehicle for increased federal gun control . . . I will have to withdraw my name as a cosponsor of this legislation.

Your Calls Matter: U.S. News & World Report takes notice of heat applied by GOA and its members

The current issue of U.S. News & World Report (3/2/98) discloses that Hatch's anti-gun crime bill is running into some stiff opposition. In an article entitled, "Gunning for Hatch," the magazine stated that:

[S. 10], which the GOP touts as 1998's big anticrime measure, is running into trouble. Gun Owners of America calls it "Hatch's Horror Bill," saying Utah's Sen. Orrin Hatch would allow "crippling" suits against gun makers under anti-racketeering laws and would penalize parents harshly if children practice shooting without written approval. Conservative Sens. Wayne Allard, Conrad Burns, and Bob Smith have withdrawn support.

With a little noise from the grassroots, Senator Enzi could become the fourth one to withdraw!

THE PRICE THEY PAID

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

* Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died.

* Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

* Two lost their sons in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured.

* Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or the hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

What kind of men where they?

* Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.

* Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners, men of means, well educated.

But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

* Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British navy. He sold his home and his properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

* Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him and poverty was his reward.

* Vandals or soldiers, or both, looted the properties of Ellery, Clymer, Hall, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

* At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr. noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. The owner quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

* Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

* John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his grist mill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.

* Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.

Such are the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more.

Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged:

"For the support of this declaration, with the firm reliance on the protection of the Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

Is it no wonder then, that Samuel Adams said:

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chain be set lightly upon you and may posterity forget ye were our countrymen."

......what then, is freedom worth to you? And....what will you do to pay back the debt we owe to those who sacrificed their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor?

Did they die in vain, or in Honor? That decision rests in our actions, as to what we do with this precious gift known as the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE. PROCRASTINATION WILL BE OUR DESTRUCTION, IF WE DO NOT AWAKE FROM OUR SLEEP, AND WORK TO RESTORE AMERICA TO ITS FORMER GLORY....WHEN THE PEOPLE RULED, AND GOVERNMENT WAS OUR SERVANT.

JPFO tells the truth about how the ADL lies

I worked for a boss that didn't want us listening to Rush Limbaugh in the repair area where the customers could hear. The problem was more that he was a liberal Democrat than worrying about customers. I would hassle him about this. His great Grandmother had been shot by the Cossacks for being a Jew and his grandfather was killed by the Nazis. I would say "With your family history of treatment by the government you should be much less trusting of the government."

Help Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) tell the truth about how the Anti-Defamation League lies about Militias, law abiding firearms owners and Judaism.

1.ADL LIE: Militias threaten you.

JPFO FACT: The ADL reports on militias offer virtually no facts - hard evidence, documentation - to support the ADL's allegations that militias threaten public order. Why are the ADL's reports nearly empty of references to newspaper articles with verifiable specifics as to date, place, time, participants, etc.? The ADL's reports suggest that a tiny minority of militias is run by neo-Nazis, racists, or other bigots. Why should the doings of a tiny, nasty minority be a reason to condemn the vast majority of decent, law-abiding militia-members?

2.ADL LIE: "Gun control" makes you safer, at the cost of "minor" inconvenience, e.g., permits, waiting periods, registration bans on, and confiscation of, some firearms and magazines.

JPFO FACT: The down-side to "gun control" is genocide, and mortal peril to those in the U.S. armed services, who have recently been deployed overseas thanks to "gun control".

In this century there have been at least seven major genocides in which at least 56,000,000 persons, including millions of children, have been murdered by officials of governments "gone bad". The seven cases are:

TOTAL VICTIMS: 56 MILLION!

In every case, there was on the books before the murdering began, at least one "gun control" law, sometimes the last of a series. In five of the seven cases, "gun control" was first enacted by a regime that came before the genocide regime - sometimes decades before.

Most genocides unfold without outside intervention, except after the fact. For example, during World War II, the U.S. government absolutely refused to bomb the rail lines leading to the Nazis' main murder camp, Auschwitz, in Poland. Had that been done many lives might have been saved.

The ADL's strategy - of watching hate groups and urging ever-more severe" gun control" - has a lethal flaw. If vigilance fails, and if a hate group seized control of the U.S. government, prior enforcement of "gun control" will ensure the hate groupies can easily pile up mountains of corpses.

Those who say, "It couldn't happen here...we would never do that...", are quite wrong. The U.S. government took all but the last step of a major genocide just over 50 years ago. On 19 February 1942, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Executive Order No. 9066. Under that order, some 125,000 Japanese-Americans - 70% of whom were U.S. citizens - were forced to leave homes and businesses on the west coast of the U.S. and were sent to places that the New York Times of that era called "concentration camps". That Executive Order was affirmed by Congress in the form of a public law at end-March 1942. The Supreme Court ultimately concurred that these deportations were legal (Korematsu v. U.S., 1944).

U.S. armed forces have recently gone to Haiti ("Gun Control"Law, 22 Dec 1922, amended 1 Oct 1980), and to Bosnia (ex-Yugoslavia "GunControl" Law, 17 Sep 1964) to try to rescue people made helpless thanks to "gun control". Had we simply shipped rifles to the Haitians, they likely could have freed themselves from their murderous government. U.S. troops may be needed to rescue the Bosnian Muslims, because an arms embargo keeps them from defending themselves against Bosnian Serb "ethnic cleansing". Why does the ADL back a policy, "gun control", that forces U.S. soldiers, sailors, marines, and flyers to go in harm's way?

3.ADL LIE: Judaism and "gun control" go together.

JPFO TRUTH: "Gun control" violates and subverts Jewish Law. The sanctity of life is a core Jewish value. By promoting genocide, "gun control" poses a clear and present danger to the lives of decent people, everywhere.

Life is so precious that under Jewish law, there are only three things a Jew may NOT do to save his/her own life:

Thus, a Jew threatened with death unless he eats pork (prohibited toJews), must eat the pork, if doing so will save his life.

From the sanctity of Life comes an imperative to safeguard Life. Thus, it is written in the Talmud - the 70-volume Code of Jewish Law -in at least three places, "And the Torah says, 'If someone comes to kill you, arise quickly and kill him.'" The Torah is the Five Books of Moses; this injunction is rooted in Exodus, Chapter 22, Verse 1. This injunction occurs twice in the section of the Talmud dealing with Blessings (TractateB'rachos), on pages 58A and 62B. It also is found in the section of theTalmud dealing with Administration of Justice (Tractate Sanhedrin) page 72A. The contexts are all different, but the message is consistent: forJews, self-defense is an individual duty. As nothing in the Five Books of Moses, or the Talmud, is ever repeated without a reason, that this injunction is three times repeated suggests it is a powerful injunction, indeed.

History shows clearly that the biggest murderer - of Jews and of other minorities (ethnic, political, linguistic, etc.) - has NOT been hate groups,but governments that have "gone bad". To varying degrees, these murders of Jews occurred because Jews neglected to learn and to practice our religion's teachings which mandate self-defense. We have paid a ferocious price for this neglect. Millions of lives will be saved if Jewish law onself-defense is faithfully followed.

4.ADL LIE: JPFO is a danger to Jews. The ADL lies about JPFO's mission and research (See letter by Abraham Foxman, ADL National Director, to theEditor of the New York Times, 21 May 1995). The ADL says it fights anti-Semitism and neo-Nazis.

JPFO TRUTH: The ADL dismisses JPFO research that shows the U.S. Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA '68) likely is based on the Nazi Weapons Law of 18 March 1938. Nazi laws have no place in America. Yet, the ADL backs GCA'68 and advocates further restrictions on firearms-ownership by the law-abiding.

 

JPFO has a new bumper sticker called ADL LIES. We would like to get 1 MILLION or more of these on firearms owners automobiles, campers and homes. The sticker is white with red, blue and black letters. It is 4 and1/4 inches high X 14 inches wide. Large enough for the ADL to see from their headquarters at the United Nations Plaza, New York.
